We visited Thirukovil from July 13th to July 29th 2005.  It is apparent that progress has been limited in rebuilding the village and life is only very slowly getting back to normal.   We have focussed our limited funds on helping the children of the village have somewhere to play and forget the trauma they have experienced.

Our funds were spent on:

Building an adventure playground for the village

Sports equipment and school books

Purchasing land for a childrens playground

Play equipment for the school

Household supplies (mattresses, cooking equipment and electrical equipment) and for some of the local residents

We were made to feel very welcome by the people in the village and made what we hope will be long and lasting friendships.

We have also established a new relationship with an English teaching college in Chilaw and purchased a computer for them to use in teaching their students English.
